It’s the beginning of the month, which means I’m taking a look at my goals for the upcoming month. Autumn is in full swing now that October is here! And this is also the beginning of the final quarter of the year!! How did that happen?
If you’ve been following me for a little while, you may know that I plan my year out in quarters. So I kind of have four new years throughout the year. I really prefer having shorter “years” as it helps me not to drift so much with my goals – which being a big dreamer, I do a lot!
Why I’m reassessing my life
In my last post I mentioned how I fell off the ball when a certain tax accounting task fell into my lap, coupled with relatives living with us for 5-6 weeks. I mean, there’s falling off the wagon, and then there’s what I did – nothing for a whole month. Nada. Dot. Zip. Nooothing. For a whole month…..!!!!
And because of that I’ve been slowing picking myself up and getting my productivity train slowly into motion.
I’m not beating myself up about it. I’m a mum with three kids whom I homeschool whilst I gig during the night and attempt to keep a blog. Just saying that in one breath is exhausting!!
But it has made me approach this final quarter in a new light.
I’ve been thinking and praying a lot about all the things on my plate. As well as reassessing my goals for this last quarter. I’ve found the book Living Forward by Michael Hyatt and Daniel Harkavy really helpful in this process. Especially as I’ve been toying with the idea of starting this new thing and volunteering for that other thing. It has really made me stop and take stock of what I want to achieve with my life. And what is needed to get me there.
Michael Hyatt is an online business coach and although his message is more geared towards business executives, his blog and ideas have helped me a lot in my own productivity.
And going through his book again, Living Forward, has helped me to refocus and get clear on my priorities. Sometimes we need an outside voice to concentrate our minds on the things that matter!
With that said, my goals for the month of October are:
- Write down something I’m grateful for each day and thank God for it
- Spend focused time playing with my kids each week
- Complete a blogging course this month
- Work on growing my blog subscribers
- Arrange dinner with a couple friends
- Spend time gardening
- Continue organising for Christmas (did you know I like to get ready for Christmas really early??!!)
And that’s it! There are more relationship-type goals this month. And that’s intentional. Reassessing the priorities for my life has made me put more weight on relationships than I have in the past.
No one ever lay on their deathbed wishing they had X amount of surplus money in the bank or an extra store room of possessions in their home. What things will matter most to you at the end of your life? And indeed, in the life hereafter?
Do your priorities and your daily actions match up with that?
