Do you long to have a peaceful home over Christmas? Are you inwardly anxious about all the tasks that need to get done around Christmas in addition to everything else you have to do? Don’t worry! I have a plan!
I’m a huge fan of the Christmas season. Mainly because I love the atmosphere of hot chocolate and cinnamon, festive movies and songs being played in our toasty warm house whilst the cold air crystallises the windows and fields outside.
Having a Peaceful Home Over Christmas
There’s something warming and cosy about the whole Christmas season for me. And although it hasn’t snowed on Christmas Day in England for like EVER, I still enjoy having a mug of mulled wine with a minced pie wrapped up in a blanket in our living room. I relish having a peaceful home over Christmas.
But this never used to be my reality at Christmastime. In the past, I would often be rushing around, stressed and frustrated at all the preparations that needed to be done. And I always felt that I had no time to finish them all.
If you often get to Christmas Day and feel rushed, overwhelmed and underprepared, I understand.
Almost a decade ago now, I decided that I had had enough of the late night Christmas Eve present-wrapping-frenzy that occurred every year. And I made a decision that I was going to be ready for Christmas the next year.
You need a plan
So after one particularly stressful Christmas, I made a plan in January (I kid you not!!). And from there, I started preparing the steps and actions that I would take to get ready for Christmas.
One of the main reasons I felt so burdened each year is because my family is so large, that getting presents for all my extended relatives was an extreme job. And because we’re a close-knit family, presents were customary for my extended relations. My extended family became so large, that I began my Christmas preparations in August each year!
My family has grown so much since those days and several relatives have now moved abroad. This has meant our family gatherings are now smaller. And this has lightened the pressure of Christmas so that I no longer need to begin in August. But I still prepare early to avoid feeling stressed and burdened.
The plan I use gets me ready for Christmas in about six weeks. It has taken me years to refine it. But now I have a list of all the tasks I need to do each week. I have documents that I print out each year to help me organise my jobs and lists. And I feel completely relaxed and more in control of all my Christmas jobs.
Using my Christmas plan has meant that my family and I can have a peaceful home over Christmas. We can get involved in festive activities and enjoy our friends and extended family. All without the added pressure of last minute shopping, late night cooking or frantic Christmas Eve wrapping!
