You may or may not know that I’m a jazz singer. But what you may certainly not know is that, stylistically speaking, I LOVE the whole era when jazz was in it’s hey day. The 1940’s and 50’s! I LOVE the music, the hairstyles, the films, the more innocent childhoods and naturally… the dresses – obviously!!
When I ran a music agency, I hosted a jazz night at a club. And as the host, I would dress in 40’s and 50’s attire complete with hairdo! I LOVED it!! That’s where I learned how to sing jazz! I was on stage with some of the best jazz musicians in the UK and they certainly brought my game up! Here’s a picture of me at one of those nights:
Taken, obviously, before the invention of the iPhone 6!
I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m so glad of the advancements that have been made in technology, medicine and science, but my heart would happily relish in the thought of wearing swing dresses everyday. Or high waisted trousers with fitted blouses. And big wavy curls with pretty side combs. Basically, I love 1950’s fashion!
Am I Just Weird?
Well I don’t think it’s just me! The rise and popularity of Cath Kidston products is probably a testament to the fact that many other women out there also love the retro era. I mean, can Audrey Hepburn EVER go out of style?? As IF!!!! She epitomises style! I’m sure that when Coco Chanel was creating her brand, her vision was to create a world full of elegant and graceful women – and then Hepburn came along!
Along Hopped Lindy Bop
So when I discovered Lindy Bop, I was so excited to find a company that made clothing that I love!! Flowery tea dresses, polka dot swing dresses, high waisted jumpsuits and more! I bought an Ophelia dress from a friend of mine and now have my heart set on several other dresses too!
And do you know what almost made my heart leap out of my chest? It’s BLACK FRIDAY!! And they have a SALE!!! Hallelujah!! My poor husband will not hear the end of my Christmas pleas this weekend!
